Authorized Level 2, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher
Certified Advanced Rolfer® & Rolfing Movement Practitioner
Accredited Yoga Alliance Anatomy Instructor
In 1974, a wise ski coach invited Ken and his teammates to a stretching and breathing class (He knew not to call it Yoga). Leaving a strong impression, that simple breathing with strong movement practice became an important tool throughout the rest of his athletic life.
Ken’s first formal Yoga class was in 1995, while studying at the Rolf Institute in Boulder Colorado. He felt similar changes from both Yoga and Rolfing and soon discovered Ashtanga with Richard Freeman and Anusara yoga with John Friend. He continued studying with both John and Richard as he worked towards becoming a Certified Advanced Rolfer, Rolfing Movement Practitioner and Rolfing Instructor.
In winter 2003 he traveled to Mysore, India to study yoga with Richard’s teacher Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and that summer began teaching Rolfing at the Rolf institute in Boulder Colorado, where he continued practicing Ashtanga with Richard at the The Yoga Workshop. In those summers, which included 3 Richard teacher trainings and co-teaching 5 Rolfing trainings, Ken stopped splitting winters with Guruji, and summers with Richard and the Rolf Institute and finally moved to Mysore to study with Guruji and the Jois family full time.
Since authorized by Guruji in 2007, Ken settled in Goa, India teaching Ashtanga each winter. He also maintains a regular Rolfing practice and also teaches Yoga Anatomy for Yoga Alliance Teacher Trainings there and worldwide during the summers. Since finding Istanbul and Turkey in 2009, Ken has finally settled there.
For nearly 20 years, Ken has been exploring the complimentary benefits of Yoga and Rolfing. This union of eastern and western approaches synthesized unique insights to adjusting Yoga postures in the practice room, and teaching experiential Yoga Anatomy in the classroom. kentherolfer@gmailcom
